The Stone House has a role to help and support to caregivers of people with disabilities, to offer him a respite.

The Stone House is a temporary foster home located in the department of Pas-de-Calais, a few miles from Saint Omer, Boulogne and Calais.

The Stone House opened October 12, 2005. It was a first in France, and from a second identical house was born.

Foundation, philanthropic, state-approved in December 2003  was established by Mr. and Mrs. DURAND and their three children. The President is DURAND Agnes, wife of Jean-Jacques Durand, son of the founder of ARC International Jacques Durand, employing more than 10,000 employees.  The name "The Stone House" is due to the name of one of four children of Philip LEOST, a staff of Jean-Jacques Durand, trisomy 21.

The founders have funded the construction of the house. The General Council, a strong desire to develop a policy for temporary accommodation, finance the operation in collaboration with the LRA.

The first customers of the Stone House are caregivers. To allow them access to respite, we welcome people with disabilities, whether children, adolescents and adults, age 6 60 years and over. Peter addresses the House all types of disabilities, Whether mental, emotional, physical, sensory ...

We ask only two limits in this home. First, those requiring ongoing medical assistance. We are unable to accommodate them because of their necessary medical or paramedical therefore seeking a highly multidisciplinary team composed of a greater number of nurses. It is the same for those with aggressive, violent. We do not have the personnel and technical resources necessary to enable people to contain too violent.

We have 24 places divided into two houses, One for children and one for adults. We welcome and eight children, six in accommodation and 2 day care, and 16 adults, including 10 residential and 6 in day care.

The Stone House has a role of assistance and support to caregivers of people with disabilities, to offer him a respite. We arrange trips so temporary accommodation for the disabled. By law, the caregiver has 90 days of rest over a period of 12 months.

We make sure to respond positively to this request for relief while trying to convince the person with disabilities to be welcomed and to participate in the life of the house. For example, we are not talking about custom project but proposed stay in temporary accommodation personalized. This is going shopping, participate in horseback riding, spas, to ensure that disabled people can also take a break, just as his caregiver. The caregiver and the disabled person and must be able to enjoy many and varied activities allowing them to be in a real situation "holiday".

From day one, a residence contract, Outlining the obligations of the provider and the caregiver, must be signed. All of the people, children or adults use their 90 days of sequentially.

A week is punctuated by the fact that we consider this house as a real home: It means that everyone must participate in daily life: go shopping, set the table and clear the table ...

During the stay, the objective is to work in well-being of the person. If it feels good, availability will be greater and it will be possible to eventually work achievements and learning. These pass through the activities, outings, Such as sand yachting or horse riding. A volunteer activity with the SPA has also been established. Inside the house, drawings, paintings, fixtures and decorations vary seasonally. Spa activities, games, sports and muscle support are offered. Every year a festival is organized around the art. We try, during the stay, to establish a true dynamic citizenshipSo that those admitted have the same access as any other citizen. The groups for activities cut across all types of disabilities.

Our philosophy is: We focus primarily on the request of people on the family system in which they operate. It is then that we wear the look on the person as such. These people have received different skills from each other. Our host, over time, focuses increasingly on the individual.

We are working on the difference, to bring a different perspective on the community and provide cohesion through the deregulation. You learn a lot along with different people.

  • In human terms:

We have 26.65 full-time equivalents, composed by various trades: Monitor educator, medical and psychological support, caregiver (s), nurse, counselor social and family economics, psychology, management assistant, head of education department, housewives, seamstresses part-time housekeeper, and a maintenance man and a director, of course!

  • Financially:

The operating costs of the house are totally funded by different supervisory authorities, namely the General Council of the Pas-de-Calais (Block grant) andARS (Which incorporates the skills of the DDASS HPST since the law of 21 July 2009).

The House has a national presence, it often happens that people from other departments are welcome. In this case, it is their source of finance department.

We have a budget for children and a budget for adults (including a care package for adults requiring follow-up more so). The overall budget amounts to 1.2 million euros.

The foundation also tries to find external funding. To date, land development and purchase of games have been totally funded by corporate philanthropy in the world of economics.

  • At the hardware:

Each house has single rooms, each featuring a private bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. There is also a dining room, spa room and a "multi-activity".

We hope next year, transforming places in day care places for accommodation, which requires an expansion of the surface. A large room "multifunctional" 90 m ² and additional rooms should soon emerge.

The beginnings were difficult in 2005 because even if an investigation had been conducted, we do not expect a crowd of people at the opening. After 4 to 5 months a little stressful, not knowing if we were going to reach our breakeven point, things are started and we received more and more people. The Stone House is now faced with many requests. To date, more than 800 people were allowed in it.

The first coMBAT is to succeed to accept the fact that our first customer is the person with disabilities, but the caregiver. This sometimes makes some shudder medical office professionals. Indeed, Nur primary purpose is really to provide assistance to caregivers. The difficulty we face is to show that we are useful in the medical and social field to the family system, both to the caregiver to offer respite to the person with disabilities so that advantage of his stay.

It is also essential to show the importance of professionalism at the multidisciplinary team. Being a social worker in temporary accommodation is another business than that of accompanying, there are other skills that need developing. Today there is a repository of good practice, Worked in the Pas-de-Calais with the help of the CNSA, which is very rewarding.

A very positive point is to have an identity card to be able to position itself as Social hosting a speaker, different from coaching as part of the permanent host. We will differentiate ourselves, not for the purpose of saying that we offer a service better or less well adapted, but different.

To date, for many situations, we realize that 90 days temporary accommodation are equivalent in terms of profits, to 365 days home permanent. We are currently working on a document to evaluate these benefits.

The host responds to the temporary respite, but also allows the development of the disabled person and his family. It allows you to consolidate and / or  create new relationships within the family unit. This is magic and / or report to the astonishment of the meeting and the breakdown. When you are exhausted, the outlook on the situation and a disabled person is impaired and this demand so much energy that no longer sees his skills. The caregiver can no longer see that person as we can see where we welcome.

After the visit, a some decline is made following the meetings held. We find that the separation permitted by the temporary reception really gives all the desire to find. The reunion generate a new look to the other. The pleasure of being mutually and reciprocally develop a constructive and positive new dynamic.
